Luke Mantee loves freedom. With jeep and horse "Joe Brown" on a trailer he drives through the country. But the calm is over when Moose, his best friend from Vietnam, asks him to take care of his young son Matt. Moose has won a piece of land in prison in poker, where Luke is now supposed to live with Matt until Moose himself is released from prison. Luke finds it hard to get along with the idea, but finally agrees. So Luke and Matt make their way all the way to "Green Heaven", but soon they have to learn that someone is doing everything to prevent them from reaching the destination of the journey. Suddenly they have to deal with aggressive truckers, nocturnal killers and whole gangs of rockers. However, they finally manage to reach "Green Heaven", but their problems are not over yet. They are welcomed by friendly neighbours, but still have to resist the harassment of the local sheriff and various lawyers and their thugs who pretend to want to buy the land on behalf of a certain Lawson. When he tries to take over the country with ever more violent means, it becomes too much for Luke. He decides to personally take care of Lawson.

The end of the German version differs from the original version. In the original version the film ends in "Green Heaven". Luke hands Matt the letter saying his father's out of prison. Afterwards he loads up his horse and wants to go. But his jeep does not start, so Luke finally sits down in his seat and eats an apple. This ending gives the impression that Luke now wants to travel alone again after the survived adventure. In the German version there is another cut here and you see Luke and Matt again in the jeep on the road. They want to pick up Moose together and are attacked by the truckers a second time. The film ends after the attack. The scene of this second trucker attack can also be found in the original version, but here in minute 27, right after the scene in which Luke drove away a burglar with an electric shock. The clothes of the two actors clearly show that this is the right place for the scene.

By copying the second trucker scene, the German version will run a few seconds longer. In this context, an additional total of the jeep was copied, over which an explanatory dialogue is running. This total is thus twice in the German version, which is why it is now a little longer.

Terence Hill plays here alongside his adopted son Ross, for whom the role of Matt unfortunately remained the first and last major role in his career. He died in a car accident on 30 January 1990.

The cooperation between father and son was rather accidental. Ross was not originally intended for the role of Matt. But when he had read the script, he jokingly suggested to his father that he could play the role. Terence liked the idea and organized an audition. Ross convinced and got the part.

Renegade is Terence Hill's seventh and final collaboration with director and Trinity creator E.B. Clucher.

E.B. Clucher's son Marco Tullio Barboni wrote the script for Renegade. He also has a cameo appearance as a golf player right at the beginning of the film.

In the British version of the film, the scenes in which Ross pulls out his so-called butterfly knife are missing. In Great Britain these knives were already forbidden at that time and no "advertising" for them was wanted in the film. The length of the cuts is 34 seconds. Such a scene was also removed from the trailer in Great Britain.

The soundtrack of the film was written by Mauro Paoluzzi. The soundtrack was prominently complemented by the songs Call me the Breeze and Simple Man by the US rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. The complete soundtrack was released in 1988 on CD, LP and MC. There was also a single release of the song Let me be the one by Nicolette Larson.

The film was shot in Arizona, in Phoenix, Sedona, Mormon Lake and Flagstaff. Details of the locations can be found in our location report.

Bud Spencer / Terence Hill - Banca Dati
