About the stage coach
Bud and Terence fight in front of the stage coach The stage coach, which has been used as a playground equipment on the grounds of the Schullandheim in Bad Bederkesa since many years, is an original prop from the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill film The Fight before Christmas. The western was shot in New Mexico in the United States in 1994. In the film the stage coach was an ambulance. It was a precursor of today's ambulances. It can be seen during a brawl. Terence Hill lures various gangsters to the stage coach, which also contains a bear that gives the thugs a good scare.
How did the stage coach get to Bad Bederkesa?
Bud and Terence in "Wetten dass..?" Bud Spencer and Terence Hill visited Germany for the premiere of the film in spring 1995 and also had several appearances on various television shows on that occasion. They were guests of Thomas Gottschalk on March 18th when he invited them to his Saturday evening show Wetten dass..? in Bremerhaven. In the city bet, Thomas Gottschalk bet against the city of Bremerhaven that they would not be able to bring the dance world champions Andrea and Horst Beer on stage ten years after their triumph, so that they could show the dance of the competition again. The city of Bremerhaven won the bet. The couple danced and the city was given the stage coach from the film as a bet. But the stage coach did not appear in the show itself. It was only shown on a picture.
Terence comes into the studio with the stage coach One week after the show, the stage coach could still be admired on German television. Terence Hill presented the film on March 24th in the children's show 1, 2 oder 3 with presenter Biggi Lechtermann and was driven to the studio with exactly this stage coach. After that the trace of the stage coach got lost for many years.
In September 2019, several fans of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill met for a screening of the film Two Missionaries at the cinema Cinespace in Bremen. Sascha Meyer from Bremerhaven was one of these fans and he learned in a conversation there that this stage coach went to the city of Bremerhaven at the time. Sascha himself had good memories of the show "Wetten dass...?" from that time. Although he could not watch it live in the hall, he was lucky to catch Bud Spencer and Terence Hill shortly after a lunch on the sailing ship "Seute Deern". Now that he heard about the stage coach, his ambition was awakened and he started his search.
The stage coach in front of the school hostel in Bad Bederkesa He finally found what he was looking for in the Nordsee-Zeitung. Not only he found some articles about the TV show at the time, he also found out that the stage coach went to the BBU (Bremerhavener Beschäftigungsgesellschaft "Unterweser"). Later, a reporter contacted him and found out that the stage coach had already been on the premises of the school hostel in Bad Bederkesa for several years as playground equipment. He contacted the BBU managing director Gerret Michaelis and arranged an appointment to view the stage coach.
It was at this date that the idea was born to restore the stage coach to its original state, as seen in the film, and to make a information board so that the stage coach and its history will not be forgotten again.
