Bud és Terence elsõ közös filmje, ill. Bud elsõ fõszerepe A Cat és Hutch filmek elsõ darabja.
A hamiskártyás revorverhõs Django végignyeri egész Amerikát, amivel bizony nem tesz szert túl sok barátra. Bár égre-földre esküszik, hogy a cinkelt kártyát csak hallomásból ismeri, meggyûlik a baja a partnereivel. Django úgy tudja, hogy Bill St. Antóniót, a banditát valaha átsegítette a túlvilágra. Váratlanul azonban egy olyan vonatrablás történik, amely Bill St. Antonio keze nyomát viseli magán. Django egy kis faluban találkozik régi barátjával, Hutchal, aki egy biztositási társaságnak dolgozik. Õ ugyancsak Bill St. Antonio után nyomoz, mert Bill 300 ezer dollárt zsákmányolt a vonatrablás során, ami az õ biztosítási társaságát illete volna. Együtt erednek a rabló nyomába… A végén persze a gonoszok elnyerik méltó büntetésüket, az arany is megkerül, mi pedig gazdagabbak leszünk egy kellemes estével...

Ein Zug wird auf sehr gerissene aber zugleich auch sehr brutale Weise überfallen. Die Täter erbeuten 300.000 Dollar in Goldmünzen und töten alle Passagiere an Bord. Lediglich ein Mann lebt gerade noch lange genug, um den Versicherungsagenten Dan den genauen Ablauf des Überfalls zu schildern. Dan erkennt hinter dem Plan die Handschrift des berüchtigten Gangsters Bill San Antonio, doch sollte dieser eigentlich bei einem Duell mit Dans Freund Django getötet worden sein. Dan macht sich auf die Suche nach Django und erzählt diesem von seinem Verdacht. Django glaubt erst nicht daran, dass Bill noch lebt, da er ihn selbst vor gut zehn Monaten erschossen hat, beginnt schließlich aber doch zu zweifeln. Er beginnt der Geschichte nachzugehen und kommt so der Bande von Bill San Antonio auf die Spur. Aber auch Dan ist hinter Bill her. Im Gegensatz zu Django hat er aber keine persönlichen Gründe. Er ist im Auftrag der Versicherung hinter dem erbeuteten Gold her. Im Hauptquartier der Bande gelingt es Django und Dan der Bande das Gold abzunehmen und zu flüchten. Auf der Flucht kommt es dann jedoch zu handfesten Meinungsverschiedenheiten, da Dan mit dem Gold direkt zur Versicherung möchte, während Django nur die Abrechnung mit Bill San Antonio im Sinn hat. Die Schlägerei zwischen den Beiden endet mit der Gefangennahme durch Bills Bande. Da Dan und Django die Goldkiste während ihrer Flucht aber vergraben haben, kann Bill die Beiden nicht einfach töten. Durch Folter versucht er den Ort der Goldkiste raus zu bekommen, doch mit Djangos Geschick und Dans Bärenkräften gelingt schließlich die Flucht aus den Klauen der Bande. Am Ort des ersten Duells, an dem auch die Goldkiste vergraben ist, kommt es zum finalen Showdown zwischen Django und Bill San Antonio.
Gott vergibt - Django nie! ist, von Hannibal mal abgesehen, der erste gemeinsame Film des Duos Bud Spencer und Terence Hill. Beide Darsteller mussten für diesen Film ihre bürgerlichen Namen ablegen und sich amerikanisch klingende Künstlernamen zulegen. Aus Mario Girotti wurde Terence Hill, aus Carlo Pedersoli wurde Bud Spencer und eines der erfolgreichsten Duos der Filmgeschichte wurde geboren. Dabei entstand diese erste Zusammenarbeit eher zufällig. Bud Spencer war zuerst nämlich wenig begeistert von dem Angebot des Regisseurs Giuseppe Colizzi eine der Hauptrollen in dessen Film zu spielen. Colizzi benötigte für den Film aber einen hünenhaften, aber dennoch athletischen Darsteller und hatte Schwierigkeiten eine Alternative zu Bud Spencer zu finden. So blieb Colizzi hartnäckig und überzeugte erst Bud und dann auch seine Produzenten, Buds hohe Gehaltsvorstellungen zu erfüllen. Die Rolle des Cat Stevens wollte Colizzi ursprünglich mit Peter Martell besetzen. Erst als dieser sich zu Beginn der Dreharbeiten den Fuß brach, wurde Terence Hill, der gerade die Dreharbeiten zu Blaue Bohnen für ein Halleluja beendet hatte, als Ersatz verpflichtet.
In Anlehnung an Sergio Leones Erfolgsfilm Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (dt: Zwei glorreiche Halunken, I 1966) sollte dieser Film ursprünglich erst Il cane, il gatto, il volpe (deutsch: Der Hund, die Katze, der Fuchs) heißen. Erst kurz vor der Kinopremiere wurde der Titel in Dio perdona ... io no (deutsch: Gott vergibt ... ich nicht) umbenannt.
In Deutschland hatte der Film im Januar 1969 unter dem Titel Gott vergibt - Django nie! Premiere. Der Film ist zwar kein Django-Film, aber dennoch sollte der Titel einen Bezug zu der erfolgreichen Filmreihe herstellen. Dazu passt auch, dass Terence Hills Charakter in der deutschen Originalsynchronisation Django heißt, während Bud Spencers Charakter den Namen Dan verpasst bekam. Im Original heißen die beiden Charaktere Cat Stevens und Hutch Bessy. Die Synchronisation für den Adria Filmverleih übernahm Horst Sommer. Es war bereits seine 50. Synchronarbeit für den Filmverleih.
Der Film wurde in den Jahren 1971 und 1973 nochmals in den deutschen Kinos gezeigt. Für diese Wiederaufführungen erhielt er den auch heute noch üblichen Titel Gott vergibt - wir beide nie!.
Eine weitere Wiederaufführung erlebte der Film im Jahr 1981. Für diese Aufführung wurde der Film für eine niedrigere Altersfreigabe gekürzt und neu synchronisiert. Mit dieser neuen Synchronisation wollte man dem Film mehr Witz verleihen. Die Comedy-Fassung erhielt den Titel Zwei vom Affen gebissen und ist unter diesen Titel auch auf Video und DVD veröffentlicht worden.
Die ursprüngliche deutsche Kinofassung hat eine Länge von knapp 100 Minuten und ist damit gegenüber der italienischen Originalfassung um ca. 13 Minuten gekürzt. Die zweite deutsche Kinofassung ist sogar nochmals kürzer. Sie läuft nur knapp 88 Minuten und ist somit sogar ganze 25 Minuten kürzer als das Original. Mittlerweile ist in Deutschland aber auch die ungekürzte Fassung veröffentlicht worden. Die nicht synchronisierten Szenen wurden hier im Originalton mit Untertiteln eingefügt.
Keiner der deutschen Titel entspricht der Übersetzung des Originaltitels. Demnach müsste der deutsche Titel Gott vergibt - ich nicht! heißen.

A train is attacked in a very clever but also very brutal way. The gangsters capture $300,000 in gold coins and kill all passengers. Only one man lives just long enough to tell the exact course of the attack to insurance agent Hutch Bessy. Hutch recognizes the handwriting of the infamous gangster Bill San Antonio behind the plan, but Bill was supposed to have been killed in a duel with Hutch's friend Cat Stevens. So Hutch starts looking for Cat and tells him about his suspicion. At first Cat doesn't believe that Bill is still alive, because he shot him about 10 months ago, but finally he starts to doubt. He begins to follow the story and finally finds out about Bill San Antonio's gang. But Hutch is also after Bill. Unlike Cat he has no personal reasons. He's after the captured gold on behalf of the insurance company. In the headquarters of the gang, Cat and Hutch succeed to steal the gold from the gang and flee. But on the run there is a real difference of opinion between the two, since Hutch wants to go directly to insurance with the gold, while Cat only wants to settle with Bill San Antonio. The brawl between the two ends being captured by the gang again. But Hutch and Cat buried the gold box during their escape, so Bill can't just kill them. By torture he tries to get out the place of the gold box, but with Cats fate and Hutch's forces the two finally manage to escape again. The final showdown between Cat and Bill San Antonio takes place at the site of the first duel, where the gold box is also buried.
God forgives... I don't! is, apart from Hannibal, the first film of the duo Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Both actors had to give up their common names for this film and acquire American-sounding stage names. Mario Girotti became Terence Hill, Carlo Pedersoli became Bud Spencer and one of the most successful duos in film history was born. This first collaboration came about by chance. Bud Spencer was initially not very enthusiastic about the offer of director Giuseppe Colizzi to play one of the leading roles in his film. Colizzi needed a gigantic but athletic actor for the film and had difficulties finding an alternative to Bud Spencer. So Colizzi remained stubborn and convinced first Bud to take the role and then his producers to accept Buds high salary expectations. Colizzi originally wanted to fill the role of Cat Stevens with Peter Martell. But he broke his foot at the beginning of the shooting and that's why Terence Hill, who had just finished shooting Little Rita of the West, was hired as a replacement.
Based on Sergio Leone's successful film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo, I 1966) this film was originally intended to be called The dog, the cat, the fox (Il cane, il gatto, il volpe). Only shortly before the cinema premiere the movie became God forgives... I don't! (Dio perdona... io no!).
In Germany, the movie was entitled God forgives - Django never! (German: Gott vergibt - Django nie!). The film is not a Django film, but nevertheless the title should be related to the successful film series. It is also fitting that Terence Hills character is called Django in the German dubbing version. Later the film was renamed to God forgives - we both never! (German: Gott vergibt - wir beide nie!) to emphasize that Bud and Terence are playing in the film.
The film was so successful that it got a sequel: Ace High.
