Ben and Kid reach the finish line in a car race at exactly the same time and now they have the problem of having to share the main prize, a brand-new beach buggy. The question, to whom the buggy finally belongs, is to be decided at a beer and sausage competition in the nearby leisure park. But while Ben and Kid are still chewing heavily, the restaurant is being laid in ruins by the boss's henchmen, who want to build a skyscraper on the grounds of the amusement park. Ben and Kid soon find it too uncomfortable and so they want to change the location, but then the beautiful new buggy will fall victim to the thugs in the parking lot. Ben and above all Kid don't like it, of course, and audition the boss to have him replace the buggy. However, the boss is advised by a megalomaniac psychologist, who does not want to give in to him and show strength. So Ben and Kid soon get it to do with a gang of thugs, motorcycle hooligans and even a real professional killer, but of course they can't harm our dynamic duo. When the boss takes action against Ben's old friend Jeremiah because he lets himself be persuaded that he is the head behind Ben and Kid, the demand for the new buggy becomes secondary. In the boss's restaurant, Ben and the Kid settle up with the boss and his minions in their own way. In the end there are even two new beach buggies and the boss also gives up the plans to close the amusement park. Ben and Kid take a few rounds over the parking lot of the amusement park, where they scrap one of the buggies again. In the end, beer and sausages have to decide who owns the remaining buggy. "Watch out, we're mad!" is, the early work of Hannibal is ignored, the eighth film of the duo Spencer/Hill. With the exception of the interior shots and the car race at the beginning, the shooting took place in the Spanish capital Madrid. Ben's garage and the amusement park were located directly in front of the stadium "Vincente Calderón", home of Atlético Madrid. The "Doctor", the psychological advisor to the boss, which was played by Donald Pleasence, is a German in the original version, which is expressed not only by his preference for the psychologist Sigmund Freud, but also by repeated loud shouting the German word "Nein, nein, nein". This fact is lost in the German dubbing. The professional killer "Paganini" is played by the Spaniard Manuel De Blas. Until her death, he was the husband of Patty Shepard, who plays the tightrope walker Liza. Between director Marcello Fondato and producer Mario Cecchi Gori there was a disagreement during the shooting. Fondato insisted on a very meticulous elaboration of the action and beating scenes, which of course increased the production costs. Cecchi Gori was not satisfied with the finished film and sold the rights to it for little money. The fact that the film subsequently became one of the most successful films of the year must have displeased him then, at any rate, he angrily terminated the contract with Fondato, who actually planned a second film and warned his producer colleagues against working with Fondato. So it took over three years until Fondato was allowed to make another film. Fondato spontaneously came up with the idea of having the final brawl played in a sea of balloons on the set. The place where the final was played looked so down that they tried to camouflage it with the massive use of balloons. Fondato hired two extra people who only had to inflate balloons for several days. Director Marcello Fondato wrote the script for "Watch out, we're mad" together with Francesco Scardamaglia. The cooperation went so well that they repeated it several times later. In this way, the scripts for the Spencer films Charleston, They called him Bulldozer, The Sheriff and the Satellite Kid, Why did you pick on me? and Bomber were also created. Frenchman Rémy Julienne, a true specialist in the field, was responsible for the car and motorcycle stunts. He also worked on various James Bond films and was involved in more than 180 films as a stuntman during his career. Terence Hill drives in the film an Ossa E-73 Enduro 250, Bud Spencer drives a Moto Zodiaco Tuareg 223-2. The race at the beginning of the movie takes place in a Ford Escort MK1. "Watch out, we're mad" was not only shot in Spain, but also co-produced by the Spanish production company Filmayer. It is therefore no coincidence that many Spanish actors are in the film, such as Manuel De Blas, Deogratias Huerta, Luis Barbero or Emilio Laguna. The Spanish version also differs slightly from the international version. It is about five minutes shorter, because many dialogues between the boss and the doctor are shortened here. Consequently, the Spanish credits name Donald Pleasence's participation in the closing credits, but the Spaniards De Blas, Huerta and Barbero in the opening credits. The title song Dune Buggy written by Guido and Maurizio De Angelis became a great success in 1974. It climbed to 8th place in the German charts and was placed there for a total of 21 weeks. In addition to Guido and Maurizio De Angelis, Bud Spencer and director Fondato are listed as authors for the song "Across the fields", which will be performed at the beginning of the car race. Unfortunately, a soundtrack album has never been released for the film. There was only a single with the "Dune Buggy" on the A-side and "Across the fields" on the B-side.
